hello. I have a question. Why my kenmore gas dryer is not heating? I tried to on auto and there is no heat at all..
Hi, I’m Mike, your home appliance troubleshooting expert—happy to help with your Kenmore gas dryer. Could you share the full model number from the door frame and tell me whether the drum tumbles and if you see the igniter glow or hear any clicks when you start a heat cycle?
Model number 110.70712990. Everything functioning as normal, besides there is no heat. I dont see ignitor glowing
Does it also fail to heat on Timed Dry (High Heat)?
yes
Did the heat stop suddenly in one load, or had it been taking longer to dry for a while before it quit completely?
I think it happened suddenly, cause we noticed right after one last load
Are your other gas appliances working normally and is the dryer’s gas shutoff valve at the wall fully open?
I believe so
Thanks—that helps. Based on your model and symptoms (drum runs, no heat on Timed or Auto, and the igniter never glows), the burner ignition circuit isn’t getting power or the igniter itself is open. Most likely causes, in order:
- Failed igniter: These often crack and go open-circuit suddenly at end of a load, giving exactly “no glow, no heat.”
- Faulty radiant/flame sensor: This sensor is in series with the igniter; if it fails open, the igniter will never energize.
- Open high‑limit thermostat on the burner housing: If it failed or tripped due to overheating, it cuts power to the burner/igniter.
- Motor centrifugal switch (heat contacts) failed: The motor runs, but its internal heat contacts don’t close, so the burner never gets power.
- Less common: Timer heat contacts or temperature selector failure; burned connector or broken wire in the burner harness.
Notes specific to your case:
- Gas valve coils are unlikely here because they usually allow the igniter to glow but the flame won’t light; you have no glow at all.
- Because the drum runs, the main thermal fuse on this Whirlpool-built Kenmore is probably OK.
Safety: If you ever smell gas or a strong burning smell, stop and call a licensed technician immediately. Always disconnect power and close the gas shutoff before any service.
