I want to know why LG washer not finishing spin cycle?
Hi, I’m Mike, your home appliance troubleshooting expert—happy to help figure this out. What’s the exact model number, and are there any error codes on the display when it stops (e.g., UE, OE, LE)?
I dont have model number. No error codes. It starts spinning then stops, filling up with water a little bit and then spinning again.
Does this happen on most loads or mainly with small/mixed items, and is there noticeable shaking or the tub repeatedly trying to re-balance before it stops?
On most loads, it will eventually stops, but right now it takes more time to finish
Is it a front-load or top-load LG, roughly how old is it, and is the washer sitting level on a firm floor?
front load LG, 6 years old
When it pauses and refills, is there visible water remaining in the drum with a long, loud drain‑pump sound, or is the drum mostly empty while it keeps trying to rebalance?
I dont see it, but pump is running
Thanks—that pattern (front‑load LG, no codes, pump runs, brief refills, repeated spin attempts) means the control is stuck in its drain/redistribute loop. Most likely causes, in order:
- Partial drain issue: a restricted pump filter/pump/hoses or a weakening drain pump makes draining slow. It eventually drains (so no OE code), but the machine keeps pausing and retrying spin, stretching the cycle.
- Load balance control: worn suspension/dampers at ~6 years let the tub shake; the washer adds a little water to ballast the load and re-tries spin repeatedly, adding time even without a UE code.
- Excess suds: too much or non‑HE detergent causes suds sensing; the washer adds water and repeats spins to clear suds, lengthening the cycle.
- Water‑level sensing: a partially clogged pressure sensor hose/air dome can make the control think water’s still in the tub, so it drains, refills, and re-tries.
- Less common: motor speed (hall) sensor glitches or dragging drum bearings; these prevent reaching target RPM, so it keeps rebalancing (bearing issues are usually loud).
Notes:
- LG front‑loads are direct‑drive (no belt), so belt slip isn’t involved.
- If you notice burning smells, severe banging/walking, or leaks, stop and unplug; consider a technician.
If you’d like, I can walk you through quick, safe checks to pinpoint which of these is the culprit.
