Hello, i have a Samsung dryer that stops in the middle and then start again by itself.
Hi, I’m Mike, your home appliance troubleshooting expert—what’s the exact model number, and when it pauses what shows on the display (any error codes or does the panel go dark)?
DV203AEWXAA
Does the display stay lit and the timer continue counting down when it stops, and does this happen on Auto Dry or Time Dry?
Yes, everything seems ok, timer is counting down. It happend on Auto Dry , i did not try on Time dry
When it “stops,” does the drum actually stop turning (you don’t hear the blower/motor) or is it only the heat that cuts out while the drum still tumbles?
Drum stops turning
About how long does it sit stopped before resuming (seconds or several minutes), and do you notice any humming or a hot smell when it’s stopped?
About 15 minutes or so
Thanks—that pattern points strongly to the drive motor overheating and tripping its internal thermal protector, then cooling down and resetting about 10–20 minutes later.
Most likely causes, in order:
- Failing or overheating drive motor (weak windings/bearings).
- Added drag from worn drum rollers or a sticking idler pulley (makes the motor run hot).
- A partially jammed or slipping blower wheel raising motor load/heat.
- Less likely: a weak motor relay on the control board opening under heat; the timed 15‑minute cool-down is more typical of the motor’s protector than a control glitch.
Safety notes:
- If you ever smell burning, or hear a loud electrical hum while the drum is stopped, unplug the dryer and stop using it.
- Sharp metal edges inside the cabinet—use cut protection if you inspect anything.
Repair outlook:
- If the motor is the culprit, replacement of the drive motor is the fix; it’s wise to renew the drum rollers and idler pulley at the same time and inspect the blower wheel for cracks or wobble. A technician can confirm with an amp draw test and by spinning components for drag.
Would you like me to walk you through a few simple checks to narrow it to motor vs. rollers/idler/blower, or discuss pro repair options and typical costs for your model?
